Description

Looking for a fun, engaging way to get your students speaking French and learning their letter sounds? This fun alphabet game is a great way to get all your students practicing les sons des lettres, right from the beginning of the year!

This cookie-themed classroom is easy to play, and easy to prep. Just print, laminate if you like, and cut out the pieces and you are ready to play!

How to play:

  1. Print a copy of the poem and all of the desired letter cards (there is a colour and a black & white version of the letter cards). I suggest laminating so that you can reuse them from year to year. If you prefer, you can just write the poem on a piece of chart paper, and/or use magnetic letters. You will want to laminate the stolen letter sheet so you can write on it with a whiteboard marker.
  2. Introduce the poem to your students by singing it together a few times, and review the letters of the alphabet using your alphabet posters. Choose a letter that will be the “stolen” letter, and write it on the stolen letter sheet.
  3. Students will sit in a circle. Pass each student a letter/cookie card to hold during the game. Everyone will chant/sing the song. You can draw a name for who to accuse of stealing the letter each time, or just go around the circle.
  4. After everyone asks « Donc… qu’est-ce que tu as? », the named student will look at their card and say, « J’ai la lettre ____! » (they will fill in the blank with what their card says). Then repeat the song and ask another student until you find the “stolen” letter.

You may choose to have one card per student, or just choose a few letters to work on at a time.

Enseignons ensemble members, this resource was part of the October 2024 resource pack.

This resource includes…

  • 3 versions of simple, catchy poem for your whole class to sing to introduce each round of the game (Monsieur, Madame, and blank so you can write any name you like)
  • 56 cookie letter cards in colour (consonants are in blue and vowels are in red)
  • 56 cookie letter cards in black & white
  • A “La lettre volée est…” page to laminate where you can write the missing letter using a white board marker each round

This game is wonderful when you have the majority of the class at the carpet ready to get started, but a few stragglers finishing up their work. We start playing, and the stragglers are immediately motivated to get to the carpet as fast as they can!

You can also have students also use the game independently as a literacy centre, once they are experts.
