Jeu de lecture guidée – MOT CACHÉ (FRENCH Guided Reading Hidden Word Game)

Looking for ways to help your French primary students think about the context of a sentence to help them read new words?

Usually, when our students read a new book, there are words we have never seen before. Many words can be VERY hard for kindergarteners to decode because they don’t yet know all their sight words or sounds (for example, the word est). So, they might need another tool in their toolbox!

This activity will encourage your students to use the sense of the text (using the words they can read, the size of the hidden word, and the picture) to predict what the hidden word is. Then, they will use their phonics knowledge and check their prediction to make sure they are correct.

This resource includes:

• 20 sentences of varying difficulty (2-6 words per sentence)
• All sentences are arranged in strips for easy prep
• Parts of sentences are illustrated where necessary

I strongly suggest you have your students write all the sounds they hear in their prediction on a white board. Then, they will check their answer against the word to make sure that they are correct. If their idea doesn’t make sense with the letters they have uncovered, they try again with the letters of the hidden word!
