This game is easy to prep and easy to play.
Just print the desired game board and cards, laminate for longevity, and cut them apart.
Students will each need a game piece to mark their spot, but that’s it – no dice or anything else!
This resource includes:
- Teacher instruction pages
- 2 game boards (one with fewer, larger squares, for quick games and one with more, smaller squares for when you have more time)
- 126 vocabulary cards with an Autumn theme
- 52 alphabet cards (26 each of upper- and lowercase letters) with an Autumn theme. Once your students are familiar with how the game words, you can add in or switch out the alphabet cards for some simple letter recognition practice, too!
- 2 bonus cards – avance 2 cases and récule 2 cases
To play, mix the picture cards (so not all of the same border colours are together). Put the cards in a pile, face down (you can pick which cards they want to have the students practice if they do not want to use all of them at once.).
Without looking at them, students will pick a picture card, one at a time. (Please note there are no words on the cards because, for this game, students should come up with the French vocabulary word to match each picture, rather than read the word.).
If the student is able to correctly say the French word* for the object on the picture, they move to the next square on the game board that is the same colour as the border of the picture card. They should also keep that card.
If the student is unable to come up with the correct word, they may ask for help. However, they then stay in the same spot on the game board and place the picture card back into the bottom of the pile, face down.
If students land on a square with a ladder, they may climb the ladder to the corresponding square.
*Please note: The teacher can decide how they want their students to name the objects. For example, students may say just the name of the object (un wagon), a complete sentence stating the object (eg. C’est un wagon), or state the object with a lot of details (C’est un wagon plein de citrouilles). For this reason, there is no answer key provided, as it is up to the teacher’s discretion. This makes differentiation a snap – just have your stronger students say more detailed sentences!
*This download entitles the purchaser to use it in ONE classroom only. Thank you so much for respecting my time and effort!*
