Make learning to decode letters and sounds in French words fun and engaging with these no-prep worksheets! Do your students struggle with blending sounds together to decode new words as they read? Do they need practice identifying and reading certain letters within words?

If yes, then this bundle is sure to help! The concept of this activity is simple, but I have seen it really make a difference with my students. Save 20% by grabbing these resources in a bundle!

The following two resources are included in this bundle:

Colorie et lis les lettres:

This resource contains 28 different pages. Each page targets one letter of the alphabet (there are two for Cc & Gg — hard and soft sounds).

Students will find and colour the letter within each word or syllable, and then use the sound to help them read the words. Finding the sounds themselves and then having the coloured visual will really help your students remember to read the sound as a whole, and not try to decode each letter.

Each page includes:

  • One target letter, identified in the bottom right-hand corner
  • An anchor word image for each target letter
  • 6+ syllables and 4+ words, each featuring the target letter, written in a “bubble” font, permitting students to colour the target letter
  • Any “silent letters” that don’t make their sound when decoding are written in gray. Any “son composés” are underlined to remind students to decode them as one sound

Colorie et lis les sons composés:

This resource contains 21 different pages. Each page targets its own “son composé”. Students will find and colour the sound within each word, and then use the sound to help them read the words.

Each of the words for practicing the simplest sounds that you teach first contain ONLY that son composé – no others! This means that you can teach the sounds to your students in any order that you like, and they will still be able to decode every word on the page (no prior son composés knowledge required).

*There are a couple of words for some of the more complex sounds (gn, et, ouille) that contain more than one sound, but very, very few!

Each page includes:

  • One target sound, identified in the bottom right-hand corner
  • A variety of words, each featuring the target sound, written in a “bubble” font, permitting students to colour the target letter

Included sounds: on, ou, oi, ch, in, ai, eu, ei, ui, an, en, et, qu, gn, eau, ien, ion, eil, oeu, oin, ouille

*This download entitles the purchaser to use it in ONE classroom only. Thank you so much for respecting my time and effort!*
