FRENCH Secret Beginning Sound Sight Words (Mots fréquents secrets)

Do your students need some more practice with their sight words, but are bored of all the usual ways? Looking for something new and exciting to spice up your word work or literacy centres? Or, do your students need some sneaky beginning sound practice, en français?

Try this simple yet engaging idea to combine beginning sound AND sight word practice in your French primary classroom!

Les mots secrets is a fun, engaging literacy centre/word-work activity. Your students will love pretending to be detectives, solving the secret code to unlock and discover the mystery sight words. All they have to do to crack the code is record the first letter of each picture clue (a “référentiel” is included for those who may not quite be able to identify beginning sounds yet). The first letter of each picture clue in each box will spell out a sight word when recorded left to right!

Students can use lots of different things to record the letters – magnetic letters, white board markers, bottle caps, letter tiles, and more! I recommend laminating the cards so that you can use them over and over.

Words included in this pack are:

● 2 letter words: la, ma, sa, ta, va, n’a, le, me, se, te, ce, ne, de, je, on, ou, au, en, si, tu, il, et, un

There is also an optional recording sheet that your students can use to record the words they solve.
