Description
Everything you need to practice reading comprehension strategies with your students, using the book Gédéon va à l’école by Laura Wall!
(There is also an updated version of the resource to accommodate the book’s recent new title and republishing, Wa-wa va à l’école.)
This set includes one whole week’s worth of literacy activities (30-45 mins/day) to do with your students.
How it works:
You will read the story each day, and then examine certain aspects of the text more closely (close reading). Your students will practice visualizing, making connections, identifying which events did/did not occur in the story, inferring, and writing their opinions all throughout the week.
Lesson plans also include a 3 minute “warm up” phonemic awareness activity using words and sentences about the story, vocabulary activities, and opportunities for shared writing and individual responses.
I have included both interactive notebook and full-page response sheet options for each activity, so you can use what works best for your students. There is also a colour poster that explains each strategy taught throughout the week.
These lessons are great for both Kindergarten and first grade – in K, my students show their thinking through their pictures in the beginning of the year, and then add text to clarify and explain as the year progresses. To me, what is important during this time of our day are their ideas and their thinking! In first grade, your students who are capable could be expected to begin using writing in their responses right away.
This book is perfect for the primary grades, when students are sometimes a bit nervous about starting school!
*Please note that you will need to own/borrow the book Gédéon va à l’école (or Wa-wa va à l’école) by Laura Wall in order to complete these activities with your class.* I got my copy from Scholastic.
*This download entitles the purchaser to use it in ONE classroom only. Thank you so much for respecting my time and effort!*
