Description

Looking for some French decodable readers to help your French primary students learn their son composés and practice their reading skills with fun, engaging phonics-based stories and activities? This resource includes multiple activities for blending and decoding le son « on », providing an effective way for your students to practice their blending and decoding skills!

Your students will love the story about Simon et son oncle — and they will be extra proud learning to read it on their own!

You can use this resource whole-group, small group, one on one, during literacy centres, for home reading, for distance/virtual teaching, and more! I personally project the digital version and teach it to my students whole-group, and then give each student their own copy to colour, highlight the target sound, and put in their reading bag to practice at home.

This resource includes the following components:

  • Fluidité warm-ups (sounds + sight words found in the story)
  • Decoding warm-ups (practice cards where students will blend the target sound with other letters to make words)
  • Printable story books, both full-page and half-page (in black & white) – all stories in this collection are “easy readers” (as few words per page as possible while allowing the story to advance) and each book builds upon the last if you follow my suggested order!
  • Digital version of the story in Google Slides™ (in colour)
  • Blending and sentence-building cards (in colour AND black & white)

In this story, all silent letters (lettres muettes) are written in grey so students know not to make their sounds. The target sound is written in red (digital version) and/or underlined (printable version).

Here’s what you need to use this book effectively:

  • Paper
  • Printer
  • Stapler (or other way to bind books)
  • Google Classroom™ and/or Google Drive™

Note: These books are most effective if used with students who already know how to decode words with simple sounds (consonants + vowels). There are new words inside of each book for students to decode! I find these books “best fit” whole group for première and deuxième année, and/or with small groups of students who are more advanced in maternelle.

See the other “Easy Reader” whole-group blending books here:

(Note: The above order is the order I suggest to teach these books; each book will include the target sound + sounds taught in previous books)
