FRENCH Decoding Practice Word Searches – SOUNDS Volume 2 (Mots cachés)

Looking for a fun, engaging, phonics-based activity to help your students practice decoding and encoding common French vocabulary words, focusing on one sound (son composé) at a time?

These unique word searches will help your students break words up into their units of sound and put them together… they will be reading new words without even realizing it!

Each page contains a word bank. Each word bank has six words featuring the target sound for that page. Students will search for the words inside of the word search. Instead of one letter per box, there is one SOUND per box. Once students find the word, they can read it sound by sound, “say it fast”, and then find the picture that shows it.

Under the correct picture, they will copy each sound into its box to spell the word.

Each sheet includes:

• a word bank with six words to find in the puzzle
• a puzzle with one sound per box where students can find and circle each word, decoding it sound by sound
• an illustration for each of the six words with sound boxes below. Once students read the words they find by decoding it in the puzzle sound by sound, they can write each word sound by sound in the boxes under the correct illustration
• Each puzzle focuses on one target sound. There are 1-4 puzzles per sound (see below for the breakdown).
• 20 puzzles in all!
