Centres d’apprentissage pour la maternelle (FRENCH Halloween centres)

Looking for some simple, engaging literacy centres for your maternelle students? Look no further! Here is a pack of 5 Halloween literacy centres that are PERFECT for kindergarteners in French immersion or at a francophone school.

These centres work on pre-reading and writing skills, so all students can be successful, despite it being early in the school year.

Each centre has “Je peux” cards with clear instructions for students to foster their independence, as well as an explanation sheet for the teacher with a supplies list and directions on what students need to do to complete each activity.

Each activity is quick to teach to your students, and works on concepts like letter recognition, examining letter characteristics, adding details to our stories, sorting letters, and handwriting. These activities should take your students at least 15 minutes to complete, but I also take the time to teach my students what they can do if they happen to finish early, so that they don’t disrupt my small group time.

The 5 activities included are:

• Put the Halloween letter cards in alphabetical order. Both upper- and lowercase cards included, and a recording sheet
• Draw a card, find it and trace it with the same colour that is on the card. Both upper- and lowercase cards included, and a recording sheet
• Haunted house letter sort – students will have a baggie with letter cards of various fonts and sort them into the correct house. Both upper- and lowercase cards included
• Adding details to our stories – students will pick a card, draw it, and add more details to their drawing. They then have the choice of writing their story or saying it orally to a partner
• Write the room – students will look for Halloween objects around the room and write the names of them on their recording sheet

The letter cards included can also be used for Halloween memory games, Go Fish, etc. – great early finisher options!
