FRENCH Rhyming Puzzles – les rimes en casse-tête

Looking for a simple way for your French primary students to practice rhyming during your literacy centres or small group time?

Rhyming is SUCH an important skill to practice!! Playing with rhymes improves overall language skills in our students, and is a big precursor to learning to both read AND write.

Research shows a correlation between rhyming mastery and future reading preparedness in children, so we definitely want to make sure our students become experts at rhyming, especially if they haven’t had much practice at home!

These rhyming puzzles are a great way to get your students practicing their rhyming skills.

This resource includes:

• 36 self-correcting rhyming puzzles (3 sets of 12)
• 3 recording sheets
• 1 “I Can” card to help students stay independent if you choose to use these puzzles for a literacy centre activity

How to use:

Cut out and laminate the cards. Students will choose a card and find it’s rhyming match. There are three sets of puzzles, and each set includes 12 different puzzle designs, making them self-correcting!

Each set also has a cut and paste worksheet that goes with it.

If you want to use this activity as an independent centre, just print and laminate the “I Can” card on this page. “I Can” cards help foster student independence – they can follow the directions if they forget what to do!
