This resource contains four math crafts for practicing putting numbers together and taking them apart – a sunshine, an ice cream cone, a fish, and a bucket of seashells. Your students will love seeing how they can make a bigger number by putting two smaller numbers together during this hands-on, very visual activity!

Each craft template has two printing options:

  • ☀ All templates on one page, so that you can print on card stock, cut out each shape, and trace the desired number of shapes onto scrapbook paper or coloured paper without wasting paper or ink (option 1).
  • ☀ Template pieces grouped by colour, so that you can print directly onto coloured paper or card stock (option 2).
  • ☀ Each page is labelled “option 1” or “option 2” to help you choose the option for your needs. You shouldn’t need to print both options.

There are four options for each recording sheet. Choose the sheet that works best for your students and the skill you are practicing (putting numbers together or taking numbers apart).

  • ☀ J’ai ____ (couleur) et ____ (couleur), donc j’ai ____ en tout.
  • ☀ ____ + ____ = ____.
  • ☀ J’en ai ____. ____ sont (couleur) et ____ sont (couleur).
  • ☀ ____ – ____ = ____

This resource also contains detailed instructions for how I do these crafts in my classroom.
