FRENCH Syllable Worksheets – Compter les syllabes

Syllables (les syllabes) are SUCH an important skill for our French kindergarten students to master!

It is essential that our young students become experts at segmenting words into syllables (la segmentation), as well as putting syllables together (la fusion) in order to make new words.

Then, once they become readers, they will be able to decode big words, as they will feel comfortable putting smaller parts together.

A student who is an expert at syllables will be a more fluid and a more efficient reader, and what they read will make more sense!

Your students will love using these worksheets to practice counting syllables in words.

Students will say a word, clap how many parts it has (1, 2, or 3) and then record their thinking by colouring that number of circles.

These worksheets are called “Compte et colorie”, but you can use anything to have your students record their answers – Bingo daubers, seasonal stamps, markers, crayons, stickers, and more!
