Tape et trie! (FRENCH Syllable counting practice game)

Étoiles⭐8

Tape et trie! is a very simple game. Just laminate the sorting mat, and cut and laminate all of the cards. Choose two of the target numbers (1-4) and the corresponding cards for those two numbers. Students will draw a card, clap the word to count the parts, and then sort it into the correct column. Simple, but great practice!

Description

Syllables are SO important! It is essential that our young students master segmenting words into syllables, as well as putting syllables together in order to make new words. That way, once they become readers, they will be able to decode words by putting smaller parts together.

Their reading will be more fluid, more efficient, and will make more sense!

I find the best way to help my students master syllables is to practice, practice, practice! We play a variety of games to help us get better and better at breaking words into parts and putting them back together.

I prefer to use this game as a warm-up activity during guided reading. I find that correct chunking takes practice and I want to make sure my maternelles are dividing each word in the correct places, and not practicing bad habits.

You could also use this as an independent centre if your students are already pros!

This game includes…

  • One sorting mat
  • 4 “number of syllables” cards you can use interchangeably with the mat
