Looking for an engaging, effective way to get your French emergent readers practicing sight words, directionality, vocabulary and one to one correspondance, while also learning how to decode new words that feature vowel sounds represented by one letter?

Love predictable sentences, but hoping to find a way to teach them in a way that is aligned with the Science of Reading, where you can focus on decoding and practicing one target sound at a time?

Use these French predictable sentences for the vowels Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu and Éé in your pocket chart to get your emergent readers practicing sight words, vocabulary, directionality, and one to one correspondance! These sentences are decodable and each set features words with a target vowel sound, so your students will also learn how to read new vocabulary words as they choose cards to complete the sentences.

These sentences will be decodable for students who have been taught the sounds of all the letters of the alphabet.

This resource includes:

  • 2-3 different predictable sentences to build for each vowel (Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu, Éé)
  • 18-24 different decodable vocabulary words featuring each target vowel (available in both colour and black & white). In the colour version, the target sound is in red. Les “lettres muettes” are in gray.
  • Each word is included two ways: a card with the picture and word together (for building vocabulary) and a card with the word only and a picture card to match (students can decode the word and add the matching picture to the sentence).
  • Gender and number are indicated on each card where relevant by using an image of a girl/boy/+ symbol
  • Two emergent readers that practice each of the sentences and the vocabulary words with pictures per vowel (for building vocabulary)
  • A second version of the emergent readers that practice each of the sentences and the vocabulary words without pictures per vowel (for decoding and building comprehension)
  • Two options of writing paper for students to use to record and illustrate their sentences
